01-07-07 Update
by R. David
Williams & Kate Morgan
It was decided that the best
thing to do was to transport Dennis to Florida to be in
a better environment for rehab. The catch was more
difficult then the previous capture. He seemed like he
was feeling better being out of the cold bay water and
into a heated pool. He was definitely a lot stronger.
Once we finally caught him, he settled down and remained
calm.
He made his long journey to
Florida and is now in a pool with other manatees. If I
recall correctly, blood work didn't show any signs of
infection. It appears that the major problem was just
cold shock from the cold bay water.
If everything continues to go
well, they will do a DNA test to determine which
subspecies he is. This will determine where he should be
released. Below are video and pictures.
